Saunders Juma of Muvi wa Chilungamo has apologized for spreading false rumors of President Peter Mutharika’s alleged death.

Last week social media platforms were awash with reports regarding the health and well-being of Mutharika following his absence from the public.

Mutharika: Was declared dead

Juma, in his daily episodes of Muvi wa Chilungamo announced that Mutharika had died and officials from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are hiding the news from the public for their own interests.

In the audio Juma advised DPP officials to come out and inform the citizenry  the sad news while on the other hand Congratulating incumbent Vice President Saulos Chilima on his alleged promotion into the top office.

In a place statement made available to Face of Malawi, Juma said he felt that something “was terribly wrong to see the silence of state house when Malawi needed its president at the most hectic and perilous time,”

Contrary to what he said in the circulated audio, Juma said people misunderstood  as he cannot wish president death saying he was praying that whatsoever was holding Mutharika at Statehouse must be removed.

“We cannot and did not wish the death of the president or anybody we differ with”

“In our social media release we prayed that whatever was holding the president at state house there be no death, illness or whatever misfortunes. We prayed publicly that God must remove the dark cloud if any.” Juma said.
According  to Juma he was scared that something terrible may have happened to the president for failing to show up and face the “national crisis in the country particularly when Malawi Police Service and Malawi Prisons Service had turned on each other with live ammunition.”
He therefore alleged that he has been receiving death threats from DPP Sympathizers for releasing such sentiments over the president’s well being.
“I am receiving death threats left and right from sympathizers of DPP however this public apology is not coming because of the threats but out of humanism,” he said.
