Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ben Phiri has warned parents against allowing their underage children to get registered for the July 2 fresh presidential poll.
Phiri’s warning came barely days after the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera accused the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of registering underage Children in Pharombe, Thyolo and Mulanje ahead of fresh Presidential polls.
According to Chakwera, the ruling DPP is registering the underage Children promising them a bag of fertilizer each once they vote for President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
But speaking during the burial ceremony of Mzimba District Commissioner Thomas Chirwa in Kasungu district, Phiri urged Parents not to allow underage Children to register for the forthcoming polls.
Phiri said that children cannot make informed decisions in the electoral and voting processes.
Malawi will hold fresh Presidential polls on July 2, 2020.
