NIGERIA – There was confusion on Tuesday in Kwadon community of Gombe State, as COVID-19 patients at an isolation centre in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area forced their way out of the facility to protest alleged poor treatment, lack of proper care by the health officials and the state government.
Afriupdate Learnt that over 30 patients took over the federal highway linking Gombe State with biuneigbouring Borno State.
The patients allegedly destroyed some equipment in their ward while they were protesting.
According to a viral video from ChannelsTV, one of the patients was heard saying “they are just using us for business”.
The patient also added that there are some other patients that have stayed for two months before coming to isolation center yet they have shown no symptoms of the virus.
She said;
“There are some people that have spent like two months at home before bringing them here, if serious they have coronavirus the symptom will show before they were brought here, like me I spent one week at home and now I’m here five days”.
“I spent five days here remaining two days to complete two weeks and I didn’t see any symptoms in my body. If we have headache we use to give our money for them to buy drugs for us, they don’t have any drugs here, no doctor everybody here is fine they are just using us for business”. she added.
Another patient said he was given only vitamin C drug since he got to the centre earlier in the week.
It was learnt that officials at the referral hospital later pacified the patients with a promise of improved welfare.
