Reports reaching this publication are indicating that presidential aspirant Khwechani Wezzie Nkhoma has withdrawn from the race.
In a letter directed to the Director of media and publication of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Nkhoma said he will not present his presidential nomination papers.
Nkhoma who was due to submit nomination papers to MEC, has written the Commission that he has withdrawn due to personal reasons.
“I would like also to inform you that, i am not taking part in this year’s fresh presidential elections on July 2, 2020 on personal grounds,” said Nkhoma.
Expected to present papers today are independents Phunziro Mvula and Smart Swira, and President Peter Mutharika of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and its partner United Democratic Front (UDF).
It now means two candidates, (Nkhoma and Hadwick Kaliya) have pulled out of the race.
