United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi who is also a runningmate to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in the fresh Presidential polls has made an abrupt visit to Ndirande Township barely hours after being stoned by angry youths.
On Thursday, Mutharika and Atupele toured the city of Blantyre after presenting nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
Mutharika’s tour was to show supporters his runningmate ahead of the polls but things went sour in Ndirande where youths blocked the road chanting anti-Mutharika’s song.
Some even went further by pelting stones at Mutharika’s motorcade. The development forced Mutharika and his runningmate to abandon the open van vehicle.
Mutharika failed to proceed with his journey as law enforcers engaged in running battles with the visibly youths of Ndirande Township.
But today Atupele has made an abrupt visit to Ndirande
UDF spokesperson Ken Ndanga has confirmed of the development in a statement posted on his official facebook page.
“DPP/ UDF alliance runningmate in a surprise visit to Ndirande market,” wrote Ndanga on his official Facebook page.
Although the agenda of the visit is not known, Faceofmalawi can confidently reveal that Atupele’s visit to Ndirande is aimed at making amends with the youths.
