police at Mwanza station is keeping in custody a woman for dumping into the pit latrine a new born child.
The suspect identified as Monica Leo aged 29 had a six months old pregnancy, on the May 1, 2020 some of her relatives were surprised with the change in her appearance as if she had delivered.
Mwanza police publicist Edwin Kaunda said that elders questioned Monica on what had happened who told them that she felt pains in the stomach.
“When she went to the toilet relieve herself, she discovered that a child came out and dropped into the toilet. Mwanza police was informed and visited the crime scene and managed to pull out the body of the child.
Postmortem results at Mwanza DHO confirmed that death was due to suffocation.
The suspect was later arrested that she is expected to appear in court soon to answer the charge of concealing the birth of a child.
The suspect Monica Leo hails from Chithumbwi village, Traditional Authority (TA )Kanduku in Mwanza.
