Former President and founder of the People’s Party (PP) Dr Joyce Banda said she wants the younger generation to take up leadership.
Banda said this on Sunday during a joint rally organized by Tonse Alliance President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera at Mzuzu Upper Stadium.
While mocking President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika indirectly, Banda wondered how someone in the 80s would still be contesting for the forthcoming Presidential polls scheduled for July 2, 2020.
She urged those in 80s to follow the footsteps of her husband former Chief Justice Richard Banda S.C.
Banda, who is 70, said she doesn’t even want to contest for the presidency in future.
She then urged all Malawians of good will in the country to vote for Tonse Alliance of Dr. Chakwera and the country’s Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima.
Malawi will hold fresh Presidential polls on July 2, 2020 following a constitutional court order nullifying the May 21, 2019 Presidential polls.
The Court publicly said President Mutharika was not duly elected.
