Commissioner Bishop Mary Nkosi has left Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) amid resignation calls for all commissioners from various stakeholders for allegedly mismanaging May 21, 2019 polls.

Bishop Nkosi who openly told Public Appointment Committee of parliament that she is willing to leave the commission has proceeded to her leave pending the end of her contract with the electoral body on June 5, 2020.

She has however made it clear that her decision has nothing to do with calls for MEC commissioners to step down for mismanaging the 2019 presidential election.

She said she has not gone on leave for sometime and decided to take her leave days now.
“I have not resigned. It’s just that my annual leave coincides with the expiry of my contract. How can I proceed on leave if I have left the institution?” she said.

Aftermath of 2019 polls, the Commissioners have been facing calls to step down from office over the alleged disputed elections.

Despite the calls the Commissioners remained adamant over the calls saying they would not resign as they insisted that they worked according t the law in as far as the polls were concerned.
