The government of Malawi has received six more dead bodies who died in South Africa during the lockdown.
The Ministry of Health confirmed of the development, saying the dead bodies arrived in the country on Monday through the border.
According to the Ministry, the deaths were due to noninfectious causes such as road traffic accident, leukemia and assault.
“The country is likely to experience transfers and movement of more dead bodies from the Republic of South Africa now that lockdow in that country is loosened. The high number of dead bodies coming into the country at the moment is due to the lockdown that the Republic of South Africa implemented
as a means of preventing further spread of COVID-19. During this lockdown all dead bodies were kept in the Morgue/mortuary pcntling transportation to Malawi br burial.
“The general public is further informed that Health Authorities in South Africa, as per International Health Regulations and requirements, certify and ensure these deaths are free from non-infectious diseases. Those dying of COVID-19 are being buried right in RSA regardless of their country of origin,” reads in part the statement.
Added the statement: “Government therefore would like to assure the general public that there should be no cause for panic when such dead bodies are coming into the country for proper burial.”
