The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has proposed June 23, 2020 as a day for fresh Presidential polls.
MEC Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah made the proposal today in Mangochi during the National Elections Consultative Forum (NECOF) meeting.
She said this will allow announcement of results within the 150 days ordered by the Constitutional Court on February 3, 2020.
Ironically, it was the Ansah led commission that had set July 2 as the polling date at the expense of the date set by Parliament which was May 19.
Meanwhile stakeholders at the meeting are yet to respond to Ansah’s proposal.
