Blantyre Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) through its education department is mobilizing learners in groups of five with supervision of Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to advance learning amid COVID-19 pandemic.
Securing Children’s Rights through Education and Protection (SCREP) Programs Manager, Geoffrey Kamanga, says the initiative will help learners who cannot afford e-learning.
“E-learning is not practical in Neno since most of the learners do not come from well to do families to afford the gadgets and primary schools here are not electrified and supplied with computers or tablets,” Kamanga said.
Neno District Education Manager, Reuben Menyere, said they “sensitizing teachers on how to touch base with their learners so that there is not huge gap.
“We are encouraging the students to call or send an SMS to their teachers on educational problems they are facing.”
The Synod is implementing the SCREP program with funding from NORAD through SAVE the Children Malawi.
Malawi government declared closure of schools due to the outbreak of deadly corona virus that has claimed lives of people across the globe.
