Communities in Mulanje district say they fear of their lives as a COVID-19 patient is seen scot-free in the district.
Sources from the community where the patient stays have confided in us that a day before samples of the man tested positive, he was on technical panel during a football match.
“Further to that, the man has argued how he will be feeding her family if forced to be on self-quarantine,” said the source.
Mulanje District Council Director of Health and Social Services, Dr. Alinafe Kalanga, insists the patient and all his contacts are on self-quarantine.
“We have engaged community leaders to enforce self-quarantine measures on the man to prevent him from spreading the virus,” said Dr. Kalanga.
According to the hospital report, the patient, a 27-year-old man, came in the country on April 26, 2020 from South Africa through Mwanza border.
He was put in quarantine on May 2, 2020 and tested positive on Saturday, May 9 2020.
