Gender Coordination Network (GCN) has said it is pushing for an investigation into the alleged rape by police officers in Nsundwe Township, in the capital Lilongwe.
According to chairperson of GCN Babra Banda, the grouping has engaged the Women Lawyers Association of Malawi to ensure that the victims get justice.
It is alleged that last year police officers who went to Nsundwe to maintain peace and order following the murder of a police woman, raped and tortured people in the area.
Months have gone after the matter has been stalling with police yet to make its findings on the allegations which sparked calls for the men in uniform to ensure they earn people’s trust.
Banda has since urged authorities to address concerns about gender abuse as efforts to combat the spread of Covid-19 continue in the country and as fresh presidential elections loom.
