Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Vice President Muhammad Sidik Mia has asked Malawians to vote for Tonse Alliance of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, saying Chakwera is Bingu wa lero.
Mia said this on Sunday during a Tonse Alliance rally held at Likuni Boys Community ground in the capital Lilongwe graced by State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also a runningmate of Dr. Chakwera in the fresh Presidential polls.
Speaking during the rally Mia said vote for President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in the fresh polls is a waste of time.
“If you voted for DPP last year, do not repeat that mistake again this year. You voted for a losing party that needed help from MEC to steal the election. There will be no stealing this year, so DPP cannot win. Voting for DPP this year is to waste your vote, but it will also mean gifting the DPP to the Muluzi family. You will destroy Bingu’s legacy.
“The only way to save the DPP is to let it go out of government so that it can be cleaned up of all the people who have polluted it and destroyed Bingu’s vision. So don’t repeat the mistake of voting for DPP. Vote for Chakwera, for he is Bingu wa lero,” said Mia.
He added: “If you registered last year but did not vote, then I am very upset with you. Registering and not voting is selfish, and that needs to stop. Here in Lilongwe district alone, there were one million people who registered but about 250,000 did not go to vote. If all of you had voted, Chakwera would be president today because MEC would not have been able to steal his votes if he had such a wide margin of victory. God has given you a second chance. Let us use it to change this country.”
Mia also vowed to remain in MCP.
“Stop trying to get me to abandon Dr. Chakwera. It will never happen. Stop trying to poach me. It will never happen. There is nothing you can offer me to leave MCP or Dr. Chakwera. There is no amount of money you can offer me to leave MCP or Dr. Chakwera. There is no position you can offer me to leave MCP and Dr. Chakwera,” he added.
Malawi will hold fresh Presidential polls on July 2, 2020.
