Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has said it will start clearing used motor vehicles at its Customs Inland Ports in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
This has been disclosed in a statement released on Tuesday made available to Faceofmalawi signed by MRA Commissioner General Tom Gray Malata.
According to Malata, the Authority will be clearing the used motor vehicles on a 60-day pilot phase starting with used motor vehicles imported through Songwe Border Station.
“Currently, all imported used motor vehicles are cleared at the border and the clearing of the used motor vehicles at inland ports will allow importers to properly plan for their businesses.
“MRA will issue Customs Transit Form (T1) to importers of used motor vehicles to enable them to enter Malawi under Customs Transit Bond. The Authority shall clear the used motor vehicles at its inland ports within ten days from the day of importation,” reads in part the statement.
According to Malata, MRA has engaged designated Customs Clearing Agents who will be clearing the used motor vehicles during the implementation of the pilot phase of the project.
“The Authority will roll out the project to other border stations depending on the success of the pilot phase,” he added.
