The Village Headman Kawiya of Nkhotakota has asked running-mate for Tonse Alliance who is also the state vice president to bring back authority to traditional leaders once voted into power.

Chief Kawiya made the request today when he welcomed Chilima in the district as he is on campaign trail ahead of fresh presidential elections.

Chief Kawiya lamented that Traditional leaders have ended up being called thieves because of subsidy coupons hence the loss of their power to lead their subjects.

The chief added that the Tonse Alliance under the leadership of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera and Chilima who is the leader for United Transformation Movement (UTM) is the only hope for change.

The chief added that with Tonse Alliance, the country will experience change that people has been waiting for.

A combination of at least nine parties have joined forces ahead of fresh presidential elections sanctioned by the Constitutional Court.

Meanwhile, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has approved three presidential candidates to race for the presidency position including Peter Mutharika who is a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)-United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate.
