President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has accepted the resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Jane Ansah.
Ansah told the state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) on Thursday night that he has tendered her resignation to President Peter Mutharika and is waiting for response.
But information sourced by this publication indicates Mutharika has accepted Ansah resignation.
State House Press Secretary Mgeme Kalilani has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
“I can confirm that His Excellency the President Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika has accepted the decision of Dr. Jane Ansah SC to step aside as chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission.
“In accepting the decision, the President has described Dr . Jane Ansah as a distinguished Malawian patriot who has served her country well and selflessly.” said Kalilani.
The development means President Mutharika has to appoint new MEC chairperson to hold the forthcoming fresh presidential polls.
