Presidential press secretary Mgeme Kalirani has said President Peter Mutharika is campaigning using a strategy that works ahead of fresh presidential polls.

Kalirani was answering to critics from people who are questioning the absence of Mutharika after the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) officially launched campaign period for candidates to sell themselves to voters.

Mutharika was last seen in public on May 7 when he presented his nomination papers to MEC.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)-United Democratic Front (UDF) running-mate Atupele Muluzi and other party officials are the ones seen on the ground campaigning.

Kalirani further questions the critics who are insisting that Mutharika should be in public to campaign.
