Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice president for the Eastern Region Bright Msaka has welcomed United Transformation Movement (UTM) Deputy Secretary General Levi Luwemba into the blue camp.
Last week, Luwemba tendered his resignation letter as UTM’s deputy SG and announced of quitting his membership from the party.
Among others, Luwemba said he was not comfortable with the idea that UTM has joined forces with Malawi Congress Party (MCP) ahead of fresh presidential polls.
The welcoming ceremony took place at Zest Lodge in Liwonde.
In his address, Msaka who is also minister of justice asked the party followers of the DPP-UDF alliance to rally behind them during the fresh Presidential poll expected to take place next month.
Three parties (DPP-UDF, Tonse Alliance and Mbakuwaku Movement for Development) are to battle it out in the polls which the Constitutional Court ordered to take place in an initial ruling in February before the order was upheld by the Supreme Court.
It came following the anomalies that the court found to have characterized the 2019 Presidential poll in which Peter Mutharika was declared the winner.
