Tonse Alliance Torchbearer Lazarus Chakwera has condemned acts of violence that are taking place in different parts of the country ahead of fresh presidential polls, saying an eye for an eye will leave us blind.
Chakwera who is also Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader preached the word of peace at Namadidi in Zomba where the Alliance and its partners held a political campaign rally.
Chakwera’s remarks came following an attack by suspected Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets made on the state vice president Saulos Chilima’s convoy on Friday in Mulanje.
On Saturday, some angry people at Mponela in Dowa planned to attack DPP- United Democratic Front (UDF) running-mate Atupele Muluzi who was scheduled to hold whistle-stop tours at the trading in vengeance of what happened in Mulanje.
In his remarks Chakwera condemned both acts saying such development will and cannot develop the country.
In his remarks the Tonse Alliance running-mate, pleaded with Tonse Alliance supporters not to revenge what others are doing by perpetuating violence, saying that only means that they are the victors.
“Munthu pandeu ukazamuona akuluma muzangodziwa kuti akuluza, (During a fight if you someone has started biting his opponent just know he is losing)” Chilima said.
Chilima continued alleging that all the acts f violence are being masterminded by the former head of state Bakili Muluzi who is planning of assassinating him (Chilima).
This is not the first the United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader to make the accusations against the former president.
According to Chilima, Bakili has given KI.7 million to people he has assigned for a job to assassinate Chilima, the group is being led by “Mr Mtenje” alleges Chilima.
