Tonse Alliance torchbearer Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who is also President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has trashed rumours hovering on social media that he would rule the country one term only once voted into power.

Recently state Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima told the people that gathered at Njamba Freedom Park in the commercial capital Blantyre that he will take over from Chakwera as Tonse Alliance President.

Many people interpreted Chilima’s statement as meaning Chakwera will rule the country only for one term.

But speaking on Times Television on Sunday night during a special programme, Chakwera said the Tonse Alliance will review the content of the partnership once he wins the polls.

“That’s not true and nobody has said that,” said Chakwera when answering a question from Brian Banda who wanted to know if he will be a one term President as speculated.

He said it has not been decided when he will step down.

Chakwera hinted him and his runningmate Dr. Saulos Chilima have the potential that if combined can bring the desirable change that Malawians are looking for.

“Dr Chilima and myself have strengths that if combined will form a synergy that will truly serve Malawians in a way that a single person would not,’’ said Chakwera.

Chakwera also quashed claims that Tonse Alliance leaders have already shared ministerial posts.
