Tonse Alliance torchbearer Lazarus Chakwera has described United Transformation Movement (UTM) leaders Saulos Chilima as an asset that has been underutilized by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for the past six years.
Speaking to Brian Banda of Times Television, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president said that measures are being put in place to ensure that his relationship with Chilima who is also the state vice president remains intact once voted into power into power.
Chakwera has also pledged to enact laws that empowers the office of the Vice President within the first 90 days of his tenure.
He said the priority is to focus on creating a synergy between Chilima and himself to fix the maladministration in the current government.
In the history of Malawi, initially, the relationship of vice president and his/her boss ends tragically.
In most of his speeches Chilima has been stressing that he is the last vice president to be treated badly as he is going to bring change so is Chakwera.
