Tonse Alliance Running-mate Saulos Chilima has stressed that the novel coronavirus will not stop Malawians from voting.
Chilima who is also the state vice president said this on Saturday at Namadidi in Zomba during a Tonse Alliance campaign political rally.
Chilima who alleged that the global pandemic is being used as a tool to delay the fresh presidential elections sanctioned by the Constitutional Court said the plan will not work.
Chilima went on by saying that Malawians are very fortunate since a lot of them (Malawians) will not contact the virus.
“A lot of Malawians will not contact coronavirus, for that reason we are voting this year,” Chilima said.
Chilima who became third in the May 21, 2019 disputed presidential elections has partnered with Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) ahead of fresh presidential elections.
On May 6 Chakwera unveiled Chilima as his running-mate in the fresh polls.
Meanwhile, June 23 has been set as a day when Malawian will go to polls even though the day is facing setbacks.
So far Malawi has 284 coronavirus cases.
