Five people have been injured after bullets that were fired in order to kill a hippo accidentally struck them in Kasungu district, police say.
It is said that a hippo has been wreaking havoc in areas surrounding Mtema Village, a development that saw Wildlife officers being assigned to the animal at the dam.
He said in the course of shooting, the bullets accidentally landed on the five victims who live close to the dam.
Meanwhile Namwaza has told MIJ Online that, currently four of the victims have been discharged after receiving treatment while one is still receiving at Kasungu District Hospital.
They have been identified as Yona Kachedwa 34, Hassan Mwale 14, Josephy Banda 34, Dyson Kalenga 23 and Master Banda, 35 all from Nkholwe village in Traditional Authority Chisemphere in the district.
