State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also Tonse Alliance runningmate has suspended campaign tour for the Eastern District of Machinga over sponsored violence by suspected youth cadets for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and its bedfellow United Democratic front (UDF).

Chilima was expected to start his whistle stop rallies with Ngokwe, this morning but some people have blocked the road, burning tyres and pelting stones at Nselema and Umbwa.

Spokesperson in the Office of the Vice President Pilirani Phiri confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

Phiri said Chilima has condemned what has happened in Machinga.

He urges people to react by voting for the Tonse Allaince leadership during the forthcoming fresh presidential polls.

He has since asked Tonse Allaince supporters to remain calm and not avenge what has happened to his entourage in Machinga today.
