Good governance expert Makhumbo Munthali has said President Peter Mutharika is disinterested in fresh presidential elections sanctioned by the Constitutional Court in February.

This follows Mutharika’s continuous remarks that he also repeated today when he presented his State of National Address (SONA) during the opening of parliament in Lilongwe that these elections are not the will of the people.

Writing on his Facebook page, Munthali said the mistake that some stakeholders are making is to think that Mutharika is cooperating towards having fresh presidential elections.

“Mutharika is still living in denial and walking in the Opposite direction,” writes Munthali.

Munthali added that while the Muluzi family where running-mate of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) United Democratic Front (UDF) is coming from is excited by the fresh elections, Mutharika is disinterested.

“Mutharika knows that the fresh elections is bad news to him and is willing to do anything to stop it,” stressed Munthali.

The good governance expert however made it clear that elections won’t be stopped.

Malawians are expected to go to polls following the nullification of May 21, 2019 presidential elections.

Meanwhile, preparations for the fresh polls are underway even though the fixed date has not been set.
