In a dramatic turn of events, a cunning 28-year-old woman is alleged to have pulled a quick one on her soon to be husband and fled with lobola money she had been entrusted to keep.

The fraudster, Blessing Kamuzonde, is alleged to have vanished with the money that her now estranged lover, Paul Chakaingesu,48, had given her for safekeeping.

Chakaingesu intended to use the money to pay for Kamuzonde’s lobola, H-Metro reports.

The matter came to light after it spilled into the courts.

Appearing before Chitungwiza resident magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka, the accused was not asked to plead. The court heard that Kamuzonde who is employed as a teacher at Nyadhevhi Primary School allegedly ran off with US$750 that Chakaingesu had given her for safekeeping. This was after the couple had an altercation over who was to keep the lobola money.

The court also heard that the complainant became very anxious and panicky, forcing him to call Jealousy Marembo who was going to the couple’s go-between (munyai) to ask him to reassure Kamuzonde that he was not going to use the funds for other uses if she returned the money.

However, the couple later resolved that the money would be kept by Kamuzonde. After the incident, she returned to her workplace and never returned home or the money.

Magistrate Chakanyuka granted Kamuzonde ZWL$ 1000 bail and remanded the case to June 16.
