Malawi’s youngest Member of Parliament Fyness Magonjwa belonging to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is under fire over her remarks of warning chiefs in her area not to entertain Malawi Congress party (MCP) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) members from holding political rallies.
In a video clip that has gone viral on social media, Magonjwa is made it clear that it is only Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) dominating the area and no any other party.
“I should never hear that a chief from this area was attending a political rally organized by the opposition,” she said.
Magonjwa added that Yao’s and Lomwe’s are one hence they should be voting for leaders coming from their areas so do the Chewa’s.
This however has attracted mixed reactions from different people who have condemned the act of the celebrated Member of Parliament as some have said it’s too early for her to start practicing politics of castigation.
Commenting on the matter economist Henry Kachaje said that she needs to be forgiven “for her zeal is rotted in ignorance and probably for poor upbringing.”
Idriss Ali Nassah thinks it has to do with school.
“She is poorly educated semi illiterate disrespectful little tribalist,” he said.
Nassah added that “useful idiot for illustration purposes. The lesson she is teaching us all in this; if you elect a tribalists, they will give you tribalism in return.”
Magonjwa further made it clear that she will be a legislator for Machinga South East Constituency for the next 20 years.
