The new cohort of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is assuring the nation that a fresh presidential election will be held on the date set by parliament.
It follows the swearing in yesterday of new commissioners at the Supreme Court in Blantyre.
In a move that is being contested by the government side, legislators yesterday passed a resolution setting June 23 this year as the day when Malawians will go to the poll.
Speaking after taking his oath of office, new MEC chairperson Chifundo Kachale stressed that he and his team have no excuse to not hold the fresh poll.
Malawi is expected to hold a fresh presidential election on 23 this month after High Court in Lilongwe nullified 2019 presidential election saying it had many irregularities.
