Newly appointed Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Justice Chifundo Kachale has announced that the printing of ballot papers for the fresh presidential elections has commenced in Dubai.

According to the statement released by the commission the printing exercise is expected to take seven days and the ballot papers will be in the country on June 9, 2020 through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in the capital Lilongwe.

Kachale added that the Commission will be meeting government and other electoral stakeholders to update them on the processes and possible logistical challenges.

On February 3, the Constitutional Court nullified May 21, 2019 presidential elections and ordered that fresh elections should be held within a period of 150 days.

Meanwhile, Parliament agreed that Malawians should go to polls on June 23.
