Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Justice Chifundo Kachale has appealed to political parties to preach peace ahead of fresh presidential polls.

Kachale said this on Saturday during the commission’s press briefing in Lilongwe on the progress of preparations ahead of fresh presidential elections.

He has also called on them to urge their supporters to go and vote saying large crowds in their rallies does not imply they have won.

He has however assured Malawians that MEC will hold a credible election and that they will be independent.

The newly appointed MEC chairperson also asked Malawians to stop dwelling on the past and let the new commission do its works.

Kachale said this following a question that how he is working with two commissioner who were found incompetent by the courts.

According to Kachale, Malawians should judge the commission after they have done the work they have been assigned to do.
