A renowned statistician, Professor Jimmy Namangale , of University of Malawi, Chancellor College has dismissed the IPOR report that says Chakwera will win with 51% in the elections which DPP won last year.
On Monday, IPOR through its National Investigator Dr. Boniface Dulani of Chancellor College (CHANCO) released a survey which involved 1346 respondents across the country.
According to a report of the survey, the preference of presidential candidate at the national level reveals that about 51% of Malawians will vote for Chakwera and his runningmate Dr. Saulos Chilima.
In comparison, 33% said they will vote for President Peter Mutharika and runningmate Atupele Muluzi of the DPP-UDF alliance in the 23 June 2020 fresh presidential election.
Reacting to the survey, CHANCO statistician said the report is biased, baseless and subjective.
He further said that IPOR failed to study human behaviour especially that which dehumanises DPP/UDF alliance from elite point of view.
Namangale said that DPP/UDF alliance has an upper hand over MCP/UTM alliance.
“Scrutiny of the IPOR results shows DPP/UDF is likely to have an upper hand than MCP/UTM*
“When IPOR was carrying out the study, the atmosphere created by MCP/UTM followers and sympathizers was that of demonizing the DDP side as having a government that marred the elections mainly getting more courage from the outcomes of the concourt and supreme court rulings as well as DPP being rudely referred to as an opportunistic lot eyeing for various covid funds,” reads in part the statement.
He added: “Now, exploring the likely human behaviour, the DPP/UDF followers in the survey would be that they would be the most likely to shy out to air their choice that they will vote for DPP/UDF presidential candidate.”
Malawi will hold the fresh presidential polls on June 23, 2020.
