Lawyers and judges are on the street across the country protesting against executive interference on the judiciary.

This is in reaction to government’s recent directive that the Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda and his deputy Justice Edward Twea should go on forced leave ahead of the fresh presidential election next week.

In Mzuzu, the protesters started marching from Katoto Secondary School heading to the High Court carrying placards that call for judicial independence, and respect for the rule of law.

In Lilongwe, Lawyers started marching from Mbowe filling station and the Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) led by its Chairperson Gift Trapence joined the protest. While in Blantyre the marching started from Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.

Some notable faces that have joined the protests include; Modecai Msisha, John Gift Mwakhwawa, former Blantyre City Council mayor Noel Chalamanda, Davis Njobvu among others.
