Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has asked the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to consider shifting its main tally centre to the capital Lilongwe.

The call comes barely hours after MEC) revealed that it has shifted its main tally centre from Comesa Hall to College of Medicine in Blantyre.

Speaking in an interview with the press, HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence said it will be wise for MEC to shift its tally centre to Lilongwe.

According to Trapence, the move will help to reduce transport challenges especially transport poll results to the main tally centre.

“It will be easier to bring electoral results from the north as well as the South. This is not political issue but rather logistical issue,” said Trapence.

Effort to talk to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa proved futile.
