A 43-year-old man has died in a road accident in Dowa after being hit by a motor vehicle.

Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) confirmed that the deceased has been identified as Gwesani David of Mitchembo Village in Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa District, who was hit on Monday night at Maweru Village along Salima-Lilongwe road, involving unknown motor vehicle, driven by unknown driver.

“The unknown motor vehicle was being driven from the direction of Lilongwe going towards Salima and upon reaching at Maweru Village it hit a male pedestrian Gwesani David who was crossing from right to the left side of the road.

The driver of the motor vehicle sped off. But due to the impact, the pedestrian sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at Salima District Hospital.” Explained the Dowa Police PRO

“Police have launched a manhunt for the motor vehicle and the driver and if arrested, he will answer a charge of causing death by reckless driving.” Indicated M’bumpha.
