Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has asked political parties to preach peace as the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is yet to announce the winner of fresh presidential elections.

Speaking during a press briefing in Blantyre this morning, MHRC chairperson Reverend Patrick Semphere asked participants in the fresh presidential elections to preach peace.

Semphere also asked parties to call upon their supporters to observe peace and order whether they win or lose the elections.

He further asked political parties with complaints to use channels provided by the commission for the good of the nation.

“The electoral commission has prescribed a clear mechanism for handling complaints and we urge all concerned to exhaust these channels for the good of our nation,” he said.

He also called on the media to act responsibly and professionally “always desisting from broadcasting that will incite unrest and violence”

Semphere continued by asking the populace to refrain from propagating false rumors that could plunge the country into chaos.

Meanwhile, MEC’s main Tally Centre at College of Medicine in Blantyre has started receiving final results for districts.

So far, 3 districts have presented their results.
