Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has condemned the acts of violence that took place in some parts of the country associated with allegations of attempted rigging.
This has been said during the press briefing organized by the chairperson of the commission Reverend Patrick Semphere.
Semphere said districts like Nkhotakota, Dowa, Mzuzu Thyolo and Lilongwe have registered cases of violence.
“The Malawi Police Service should swiftly investigate all incidences to violence and prosecute the suspects, without regard to their political affiliation,” said Semphere.
The commission has also asked MDF and Malawi police to uphold human rights principles when discharging their duties in relation to provision of security during this period.
However, the commission learnt that both the Malawi Police Service and the Malawi Electoral Commission investigated all cases and they were resolved appropriately.
Speaking this morning during a press briefing Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Justice Chifundo Kachale has assured people that the commission will solve all the complaints before announcing the winner.
Kachale added that so far they have received one complain form one of the presidential aspirant Peter Kuwani of Mbakuwaku Movement for Development (MMD) to disqualify the candidatures of Lazarus Chakwera and Peter Mutharika for not adhering to Supreme Court of Appeal’s judgment.
