President Peter Mutharika of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) is leading in Blantyre against Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of Tonse Alliance.

Unofficial results from 13 constituencies in Blantyre city and rural shows that Mutharika is leading with 158 075 of the vote followed by Chakwera at 142 989.

Mbakuwaku Movement for Development candidate Peter Kuwani came third with 1 844.

Official results will be announced by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) within a period of 8 days, according to the constitution of the land.

MEC conducted the fresh polls on Tuesday 23, 2020 following a constitutional court order nullifying the May 21, 2019 polls which saw President Peter Mutharika being declared winner.
