Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson, Chifundo Kachale has revealed that Malawi Congress party (MCP) President Lazarus Chakwera has withdrawn the application for a judicial review, a matter in which the party questioned the appointment of some MEC Commissioners into the new electoral leadership.
Kachale made the remarks during a MEC press briefing on proceeding of presidential election at College of Medicine in Blantyre.
The MCP was against the appointment of Jean Mathanga, Linda Kunje, Steve Duwa and Arthur Nathulu as commissioners after the Malawi parliament found them incompetent in managing the 2019 presidential election.
Mathanga was re-appointed on the ticket of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Kunje who was went under the ticket of Peoples Party was reappointed again on DPP slot.
MCP petition the High Court to seek an interpretation whether it is constitutionally for the ruling party to have four commissioners against two from opposition parties.
