The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has dismissed a complaint raised by Mbakuwaku Movement for Development (MMD) President Peter Kuwani asking the electoral body to disqualify two of the three Presidential candidates in the fresh Presidential polls.
Kuwani asked MEC to disqualify President Peter Mutharika of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) alliance and Tonse Alliance torchbearer Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
He argued that the two did not follow the Supreme Court ruling by not maintaining their previous runningmate.
Addressing the media on Wednesday night MEC Chairperson Dr. Chifundo Kachale said Kuwani’s argument is invalid.
He said the candidates are eligible.
