Unofficial results of the June 23, fresh presidential elections are indicating that the torchbearer of Tonse Alliance who also president for the opposition Malawi Congress Party Lazarus Chakwera is leading.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate President Peter Mutharika is trailing behind Chakwera and he is being followed by Mbakuwaku Movement for Development (MMD) president Peter Kuwani.
However, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Justice Chifundo Kachale has said that the commission is still tabulating results from the remaining districts as it has already worked on 18% of the results.
Speaking to the press this morning, Justice Kachale said the official results will be announced once the commission receives all the results from all districts.
Presiding Officers from all the districts across the country, after counting in their respective districts are physically taking the results to the National Tally Centre for final tallying.
The Malawi Electoral Commission has 8 days from the 23rd of June to announce the final results.
Malawians went to the polls on the 23rd June, 2020 for a Fresh Presidential Election after the court nullified the May 2019 Presidential election.
