Running-mate for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) – United Democratic Front (UDF) Atupele Muluzi has said currently there is no winner or loser in the June 23, 2020 fresh presidential elections.
Muluzi said this this afternoon during a press briefing he held in Blantyre.
They Young Muluzi’s remarks come at a time when supporters of Malawi Congress Party (MCP), United Transformation Movement (UTM) and other parties in the coalition are celebrating for the victory of their leader.
According to unofficial results, MCP president Lazarus Chakwera who is also the torchbearer for Tonse Alliance is leading in the presidential race with more that 51%+1 of the votes.
In his remarks, Muluzi said it is only the electoral body, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) that will declare a winner of the elections.
He further went on appealing to the supporters of DPP-UDF alliance not to lose hope and they should remain peaceful as they are waiting for the official poll results from the electoral body.
Muluzi also urged supporters to ignore fake results that are circulating on social media platforms that Chakwera has won the polls.
Few days ago, Muluzi made a statement that he will not accept the outcome of the polls saying the elections are ‘farce’
