The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has said it will release its preliminary report on the fresh presidential elections held on June 23, 2020.

MHRC chairperson Reverend Patrick Semphere said this during a press briefing in Blantyre.

According to Semphere, the commission placed its mission of observers across the country in order to assess the conduct of the elections.

Semphere also noted that the campaign period was characterized with violence, voter turnout was very low in some areas and polling started on time in many areas.

“We will release our interim report towards the end of this week,” said Semphere.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is yet to announce the winner of the fresh presidential polls.

However, Tonse Alliance torchbearer Lazarus Chakwera is leading in the presidential race followed by a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Peter Mutharika.
