Mbakuwaku Movement for Development (MMD) President Peter Kuwani has conceded defeat in fresh polls and has congratulated the President in-waiting Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of Tonse Alliance for emerging victorious.
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on Tuesday conducted fresh Presidential polls where three Presidential candidates namely; President Peter Mutharika of DPP-UDF Alliance, Peter Kuwani of MMD and Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) battled out.
According to unofficial results, Chakwera is on the lead scooping 59.4 percent all the votes while Mutharika has scooped 39 percent of all the votes.
Speaking in an interview with the press, Kuwani says the unofficial results being aired in various media houses show that the people’s will has been respected.
He said although there are some other questionable issues regarding the results but its time to respect the rule of law in the country.
MEC Chairperson Dr. Chifundo Kachale on Thursday night told the media that the results will be announced within a period of 48 hours.
He then urged Malawians to remain calm.
