A serial rapist who had been enjoying his freedom under the Presidential Amnesty, is currently battling for his life at Gutu Rural Hospital after he was attacked by a horde of angry villagers.
The angry mob took up arms with catapults and knobkerries and assaulted him for allegedly raping 2 minors.
The accused, Albert Mativenga (32) had to attend his court session on the sickbed as he was incapacitated to physically attend trial to the court house.
He was left physically battered with a swollen head and a bloody face, therefore he could not move.
Mativenga is a classified serial rapist whose jail term was cut short due to the Presidential Amnesty in March.
According to close sources at the police, Mativenga has a track record of sexual offenses and he attempted to chop off some of his victim’s hands.
He was captured in Mushaviri Resettlement area after he allegedly raped 2 school kids on different occasions.
He is said to have attempted to murder another woman.
The police had launched a manhunt for him but the villagers took matters into their own hands and found him.
According to eyewitnesses, Mativenga was cornered by the villagers who stoned him with catapults until he became unconscious.
He was reportedly beaten to a pulp.
According to Masvingo Mirror, Mativenga is holding on dear life.
According to the state, he allegedly raped 2 minors on separate occasions and he lured female minors and threatened to kill them before raping a grade 5 girl.
The villagers mobilized themselves after receiving a tip off that he was in Village 16.
He was remanded in custody to the 6th July 2020.
