Newly elected President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has said his administration will formulate new 2020/21 national budget which will be in line with Tonse Alliance manifesto.
Chakwera said this just after being declared winner of the fresh Presidential polls held on June 23, 2020.
According to Chakwera, his administration will start working on a provisional budget as a priority area once he gets into office.
“We will look at the budget and see if we can have an appropriation provisional budget to take care of the next two to three months. We will bring our own budget to Parliament so that it answers to the aspirations of Malawians,” he said.
Minister of Finance and Economic Development Joseph Mwanamvekha in the then Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration three weeks ago tabled a 2020/2021 national budget and members of Parliament were today expected to start deliberating on the budget.
But with the change of government, it is uncertain as to whether MPs will start meeting due to the fact that the new cabinet is yet to be appointed.
At the same DPP MPs are expected to move from the ruling side to the opposition side following President Peter Mutharika’s defeat in the fresh Presidential polls.
