Former President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) John Zenus Ungapake Tembo on Sunday attended the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in the capital Lilongwe.

Tembo who retired from frontline politics in 2013 after handing over to the mantle to Chakwera was spotted at the venue putting on a black suit.

Speaking to the press Tembo could not hide his excitement seeing MCP back in power after being the opposition for over 20 years.

Tembo said the return of MCP simply shows how Malawians were eagerly to see change in the running affairs of the country.

He then urged the newly elected President to have the interest of Malawians at heart.

Tembo is the country is in a mess and he expressed hope that Chakwera and his Vice Dr. Saulos Chilima will do the needful.

Chakwera was declared winner of the fresh Presidential polls on Saturday after outclassing President Peter Mutharika of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
