At least 19 people have been confirmed dead with several others injured as a result of an explosion caused by a gas leak at a clinic in Iran’s capital Tehran on Tuesday 1 July.

Tehran fire department spokesman Jalal Maleki confirmed the reports of the blast on Iran’s state media.

According to Maleki, at least 25 employees were inside the clinic at the time of the explosion with numerous patients. So far 20 people have been rescued by firefighters.

Report by BBC indicated that most of the victims , fifteen of the dead, were women who were in the upper floors being operated and those who were looking after them.

State TV reported that there could be more explosions because there were a number of oxygen tanks remaining in the medical centre.

The current explosion comes days after a big explosion near a military facility rocked Tehran.
