DOWA – A 66-year-old man has been killed in a road accident in Dowa after being hit by a motor vehicle, police confirmed .
Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) has identified the deceased as Kambewa Dusiya from Katengeza Village in Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa District.
He said the accident happened on Wednesday morning at Katengeza Trading Centre along Lilongwe-Salimaroad, involved a motor vehicle registration number BW 5957 Nissan Pickup, driven by Jeston Katondo, 43, of Chibanzi Village, Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa.
“The motor vehicle was coming from the direction of Lilongwe heading Salima with one passenger on board.
Upon arrival at Katengeza Trading Centre, the driver hit the male pedestrian who was crossing the road from the right hand side to the left hand side.
Due to the impact, the pedestrian sustained severe head injuries, fractured left shoulder and fracture of the hip and hewas taken to Salima District Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.” Said M’bumpha
According to the Dowa Police PRO, the motor vehicle had its offside head lamp and windscreen broken.
