The Dowa Third Grade Magistrate’s Court has convicted and sentenced a 30-year-old man to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for wounding his 25-year-old wife.
Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) said state prosecutor Sergeant Joseph Banda told court that the convict Daniel Amosi on July 1 2020 at Chalera Village in Dowa District unlawfully wounded his wife, Fanney Charles on allegation that she was going out with other men.
“The court further learnt that the convict assaulted his wife who is eight months old pregnant after they picked a quarrel at a drinking joint within the village. When appearing before court on Wednesday, the convict pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful wounding contrary to Section 241 of the Penal Code.” Explained M’bumpha
According to M’bumpha the convict pleased for leniency and forgiveness but, state prosecutor Sergeant Banda pleaded with the court for a stiff punishment, saying the offence is serious in nature considering that the woman is eight months old pregnant.
“Passing sentence, Third Grade Magistrate Harrison Stick concurred with the state’s submission and sentenced the convict to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour as a warning to other would be offenders.” Said Sub Inspector M’bumpha
Both the convict and the victim come from Chalera Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa District.
